A Hardy space approximation supporting zero-free half-planes for the -function
Abstract
By a theorem of Bagchi, the Riemann Hypothesis (RH) holds if and only if belongs to the closed linear span of , , in the Hardy space , where is the half-plane . The formal Möbius expansion diverges on the critical line, by a theorem of Báez-Duarte. We study it in the scale of spaces , where its convergence forces to be zero-free in . We prove that the partial sums converge to in for every , and that a single zero of in keeps the best-approximation error uniformly away from zero. We express the Möbius error as a series with elementary terms, free of , and compute it for : oscillates without decaying, whereas for it decays at a rate close to , much faster than the bound known under RH. On the critical line, behaves like for , in agreement with earlier computations by Báez-Duarte, Balazard, Landreau and Saias.
