Abstract · v1

Let R=GR(pm,pmf)R=GR(p^m,p^{mf}), where pp is prime, q=pfq=p^f, m,f≥1m,f\geq1, d≥2d\geq2 and p∤dp\nmid d. We count nn-element subsets of P={xd:x∈R}∖{0}P=\{x^d:x\in R\}\setminus\{0\}, the set of distinct nonzero ddth-power values, with a prescribed sum. For fixed m,d,nm,d,n with n≥3n\geq3, the count equals q−m(∣P∣n)(1+Om,d,n(q1−n/2)) q^{-m}\binom{|P|}{n}(1+O_{m,d,n}(q^{1-n/2})) as q→∞q\to\infty through admissible prime powers, uniformly over all targets and with both pp and ff allowed to vary. For fixed m,dm,d, we also classify uniform relative equidistribution at the remaining positive sizes: it fails at n=1n=1, and at n=2n=2 it holds along an admissible sequence if and only if, for all sufficiently large terms, gcd⁡(d,q−1)=1\gcd(d,q-1)=1 and (m≥2 or p≠2)(m\geq2\text{ or }p\ne2).
